BLUEPRINT FOR A BETTER NEW CUMBERLAND LED BY CDA

5 of the 7 AIA volunteers work(ed) for CDA and donated time equal to $37,000 to the New Cumberland Revitalization effort via AIA Pennsylvania’s Design for Better pilot project including current staff; Chris Dawson, Sara Sweeney, & Jim White. We coordinated the design workshops, provided graphic documentation, developed design concepts, and presented the ideas to the broader community over a period of 6 months. The concepts developed through the process included activating Market Square, painting a Directional Mural, transforming an alley into a Theatre Pocket Park, and reclaiming the west shore of the Susquehanna River for a Riverwalk. The proposed interventions promise to incrementally create positive change and craft a brighter future to a hidden gem in the shadow of the State’s Capitol.
