AIA CENTRAL PA FALL LECTURE
Peter Q. Bohlin, FAIA was the speaker on November 7th for the AIA Central PA Fall Lecture. Peter’s presentation titled “Nature of Circumstance” provided an overview of his work as one of the founding principals of Bohlin Cywinski Jackson, which began practice as Bohlin and Powell in 1965 and now includes offices in Wilkes-Barre, Pittsburgh, Philadelphia, Seattle, San Francisco and New York City.
The firm’s success and the professional recognition it has attained, are largely attributable to his design insights and untiring dedication to setting the highest standards for all work produced by the firm. His leadership and inspiration have established a culture of thoughtful, thorough design thinking throughout the practice and he remains keenly interested in both broad conceptual thinking and detail expression. In 2010, the American Institute of Architects awarded Peter with the Gold Medal, the highest honor for an individual in the profession.
BCJ’s high quality design & consistency across project types & scales is a direct testament to Peter’s leadership. The work’s beauty, honesty, and humanity are inspiring and he shared how his sensibilities were shaped early in life through connections to his natural surroundings and academic pursuits and how they continue to influence his designs.
Peter is a very generous person…not uncommon for people from the coal region. It is remarkable to have one our profession’s best designers over the last 50 years hail from Pennsylvania and come to Harrisburg to share his insights with the Central PA community. We had a strong turnout that provided Peter with a standing ovation at the end of the presentation.
